About Slingsby
Our chosen gin for January is Spirit of Harrogate’s Slingsby London Dry. The signature gin from these award winning distillers is dynamic and vibrant. It has been carefully crafted using locally sourced botanicals synonymous with Harrogate in Yorkshire; a county in the North of England. These include Primrose, sweet cicely, milk thistle, rosehip, nettle, rhubarb and Taylors of Harrogate’s green and jasmine tea. This unique melange is complemented with water from the world-famous Harrogate spring water as well as pure single grain spirit and a handful of the finest ingredients sourced from around the world.
In total there are twenty-four botanicals in the London Dry Gin and it took fifteen months and eighteen different recipes to get the balance just right. This care and consideration is evident and the result for Slingsby London dry is a smooth and delicately flavoured gin.
Gin and Tonic Pairing
This month’s tonic pairing of Slingsby London Dry with the Capi Native Tonic makes for a well balanced, rounded gin and tonic. Often London Dry is paired with traditional tonic but we have taken a different tack. The addition of another myriad of botanicals hasn’t overdone the taste, moreover the dry, savoury notes have evened out the fruity-spicy Slingsby and the result is a beautiful, refreshing summer drink!

Slingsby Shop in Harrogate | Photo - Stray FM
The Spirit of Harrogate has been established for 5 years by the likes of two gentleman Marcus Black and Mike Carthy. Their aim was to use their skills to celebrate the essence of the beautiful Yorkshire town of Harrogate. With chemistry / alcohol and business backgrounds respectively, these two came together to create the perfect business partnership.
The gin itself is named after the spirited English adventurer William Slingsby. It is said that Slingsby was the one who sourced the mineral water that put Harrogate on the map as a spa town. It is this adventure and creativity that lives on in his namesake gin.
The Spirit of Harrogate are doing wonders for putting Harrogate firmly on the map. They originally set up a pop-up store in late 2015 to showcase their gins for six months in the local community. Such was the success that six months turned into five years and in fact it looks to be a permanent fixture for the foreseeable future.
The beautiful shop in the heart of the town is an adventure in itself. Here you can taste various experimental gins, that if are successful on the shop floor manifest themselves firmly onto the Slingsby product line. One of their most popular gins, the Slingsby Rhubarb went through just this process and we can confirm is absolutely delicious.
Always the spirited adventurers ourselves, we can’t wait to see the next ingenious gin to grace the Slingsby shelves!
